Sabbath
a haiku sequence

evening shadows
scent of warm grape wine
lingers in the cup

winter sunset
the weaving of candlelight
and clarinet

a clarinet's soulful song
fades with the sunset
flicker of candles

sundown
the candle well
deepens

mother’s breath
on the candle's flame --
winter’s rest

smoking taper
the evening star appears
brighter than the moon

bluer in the east
the silver candlestick
polished by moonlight
